On Saturday after Christmas, December 26th Larry started hurting in his side while we were deer hunting. By the time we got through eating supper with Mother, he was hurting pretty bad. So we loaded up and went to Meridian to Rush ER. Of course it was a kidney stone. They gave him a shot and we came home around 11:30 p.m.
We went to Meridian on Monday and saw Dr. Wade and he said he could do the procedure after he saw all his patients or we could wait and do it Thursday. So we opted for Thursday - we had to be there around 8:30. Larry was third of the day. The above picture is him waiting in the Out Patient Surgery Room. They finally came around 10:15 and took him to another holding room where he stayed there until around 12:00 noon.
Dr. Wade did the procedure and retrieved the stone and Larry got back to his room around 2:00 p.m. He was doing okay - said he was starving to death - so close to 3:00 they brought him some chicken nuggetts and fries. He had made the statement that since he had that stint in it was going to hurt to urinate. He drank two pepsi's, several glasses of water and they gave him the drips. They were getting worried that he had not urinated - so around 5:30 they did a bladder test to see if he was full and of course he was. Finally right after they did that, he started going. Dr. Wade said due to him not going so long that he thought the best and safest thing for us to do was spend the night in the hospital - that if something did happen it would be a long drive from Philadelphia to Meridian. So we went up to the hospital and was admitted. Above - he was talking to the guys at work. Bro. Wayne came and stayed during surgery.
It made for a very long night - neither of us got much sleep - all I had was the chair and it wasn't very comfortable. Finally around 4:00 a.m. or a little after we just gave it up and didn't try to go back to sleep. I think Larry might have gotten a few dozes in. By the time we got admitted, the cafeteria has closed - so for our New Year's Eve supper we had chips, candy bar and drinks!
Dr. Wade came around about 9:00 a.m. and dismissed us and we got home about 11:00 - had to wait for him to finish making rounds and for the nurse to do the discharge paperwork.
