Larry's Back Surgery, July 15, 2010

Larry started complaining on Monday after the 4th - back and leg pain - his back and down his leg had been hurting some over the last month but the pain was worse on Monday.    Early hours of the morning Tuesday, he almost fell going to the bathroom.   He went in to work and went to Dr. Shrock's around 8:00.    He said it was a pulled muscle.    He went back to work and sat around in the shop and worked.    The next day he was no better.    Still couldn't walk on the right leg - it hurt from his calf to his ankle.    By Thursday he was no better so we went back and he set him up for an MRI on Friday.    He wasn't in much pain as long as he stayed off of it or didn't walk but just a little distance.    The guy reading the MRI said he had a bulging disc.   So on Monday we went back to Shrock and he set us up with Dr. Wood on Tuesday.    So we decided to go for surgery instead of therapy which could/could not work.    And could take up to six months to see improvement.   So surgery was set up for 2:00 p.m. on Thursday.    It was a long day Thursday - Bro. Wayne got there at 12:00 right about the same time we did.   Mary came and set with us for a while.   Surgery wasn't until around 5:30.    After surgery I made Bro. Wayne go home since he had been there all day.   Mary, Sonny, Rachel and Gary and I went to the cafeteria and ate supper while Larry was in recovery.    They said when he woke up he was in pain so they gave him something - big mistake - make him crazy.     He never slept all night - he doesn't remember hardly anything about that night.    He told some stuff and they finally gave him some cereal around 9:00 to eat and around 10:00 walked down the hall.    The anethiologist said they hoped to go in with pain and out of surgery with no pain.    He walked down the hall with no pain whatsoever in that leg.   Thank you Lord!    We came home the next day around 9:00 am.   Mary & Sonny had brought him a basket of goodies and he ate some of it during the night.    Yvette and Horace came around lunch Friday and brought us some food - dumplings, green beans, salad and blueberry pie - so good and we are so thankful for all the love and prayers.    Sylvia's Sunday School class/Robert's DT class sent him a card along with Joyce Cobb.
