A Time to Plant ..... March, 2012

Saturday planting!  We got busy bright and early!    Larry first planted the tomato plants.... 4 Celebrity and 2 Early Girls.    He planted the 2 Early Girls on each end of the box and the 2 Celebrity in the center.   Then he decided to try 2 Celebrity in buckets and see how they did this year.    I had told him last year I needed another plant JUST for frying green tomatoes!     Next...... we planted my yellow and pink dahalia plants that I bought at Lowe's the night before.    Then I had bought some Zinnia seeds that I had never gotten around to starting so we just planted those seed in the bed where we planted them last year.    Then I had gotten some free Cosmos seed in the mail so we planted them at the end of the rose bed that was empty .... along with the verbena that Mrs. Helen Guthrie gave me.   I decided that I didn't want any plants on the front porch this year.   You water them and then the porch is wet and the flowering blooms fall off and land in the water and then they dry and make a mess on the porch all summer (ok... so I'm whining but it's MY porch).   So I told him I thought it would be a good idea to plant them in the bed in front where the shrub are.   So..... we went to the CoOp.    We got some Vinca & Marigolds and Petunias.    Then we dug some petunias up from Mothers and added to them.   Then I got my cute flower solar lights out (some are going to have to have batteries recharged).   Then on Monday went back to CoOp and got a basket of vine to sit in the middle of the porch (ok so I did put SOMETHING on the porch) and got some cladiums to put as you start back to the deck in the same spot as last year since they did so good.    We are slowly learning what plants will and most importantly WON'T live in our Mississippi summers.  So now we water, sit back and watch them grow into beautiful colors of spring/summer!    3/24/12
